2 Dead, 1 Injured After Early Morning Accident on I-495 in Haverhill

Haverhill, MA – A tragic early morning crash on Interstate 495 in Haverhill has left two people dead and another injured, according to Massachusetts State Police. The accident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, and remains under investigation.

Authorities say they first received reports of a person walking in the median of I-495 near Exit 107. Upon responding to the scene, Troopers found Haverhill police already assisting a person in a nearby parking lot, who was being transported for medical treatment. The individual told officers they had been involved in a vehicle crash along with two others.

State police immediately began a search for the vehicle. After an extensive effort, Troopers located the crashed car deep in an embankment surrounded by trees on the southbound side of the highway. Inside, they discovered two victims who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Lane Closures and Traffic Impact

As a result of the incident, a temporary lane closure was implemented on I-495 northbound between Exit 105 and Exit 106. While the southbound lanes were reopened around 9:45 a.m., the northbound restrictions are expected to remain in place for several hours as cleanup and investigation efforts continue.

MassDOT is urging drivers to use caution and consider alternate routes while crews remain on scene.

At this time, the identities of the deceased have not been released, and authorities have not disclosed the cause of the crash. The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Essex County District Attorney’s Office and local authorities.
